And Just Like That’s Cynthia Nixon Responds to Miranda Hobbes Criticism

For such a long-awaited series, we can’t say that the release of Sex And The City sequel And Just Like That (AJLT) has gone super smoothly.

From questions over the way the show handled the exit of Samantha, after actor Kim Cattrall revealed she would not be returning after years of feeling bullied by Sarah Jessica Parker, to the furore over Mr Big’s Peloton-related death, which saw the cult fitness brand’s shares plummet, and, of course, the sexual assault claims against Chris North, the new season has been plagued by all sorts of controversies.

And the latest? Fans of the original Sex And The City series have been questioning the character development of Miranda Hobbes in And Just Like That, with many viewers struggling to believe the journey that the writers have taken her on.

The criticism is specifically around the choices she’s making in AJLT (no spoilers here). Though we’re always a big fan of any narrative arc which sees a woman following her sexual desires and discovering her true self, many viewers have questioned whether the Miranda portrayed in the original series would make such reckless decisions.

And now, after much online speculation, actor Cynthia Nixon (who plays Miranda) has entered the chat.

“I think some people are not loving seeing these characters off-kilter, but I love that,” she said during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “Whatever age you are, you haven’t figured everything out. If you think you’ve figured everything out, you’re kidding yourself.”

She also added, “You’re not young anymore but you’re not old either. You still have time to make sure your life is the way you want it to be and if you’re deeply unhappy in your career choices or in your marriage you should look at it and demand more.”

And you can’t really argue with that, can you?
