If you’re already mourning the impending finale of And Just Like That (not to mention frantically researching whether or not there will be a second season), we have some good news. Namely, HBO is releasing a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of And Just Like That.
While the series has generally received a positive response from fans, there have been some ~contentious~ talking points. Before And Just Like That hit our screens, there was speculation that Miranda (played by Cynthia Nixon) might finally get a decent storyline about her sexuality. Yet some fans were left unimpressed by her relationship with Che Diaz – particularly the disastrous impact it had on her marriage to Steve.
And, of course, the show was always going to struggle to fill the gap left by Kim Cattrall, who chose not to reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones.
Now fans have a chance to see how And Just Like That was created, 20 years after Sex and The City first premiered. Here’s everything we know about And Just Like That: The Documentary…
What will And Just Like That: The Documentary be about?
As you’d expect, the documentary goes behind the scenes of the show, featuring exclusive interviews with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis – as well as newcomers Sara Ramírez (Che Diaz), Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa Todd Wexley), Karen Pittman (Dr Nya Wallace), and Sarita Choudhury (Seema Patel).
In the trailer, SJP is heard saying, “Even 23 years in, I’m excited. Terrified, and excited.” It also provides a unique insight into the fashion decisions in the show, featuring interviews with the show’s costume designers, Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago – as well as a peek into the writers’ room led by showrunner and writer-director Michael Patrick King.
The trailer also shows a brief glimpse of the late Willie Garson, who sadly died last September after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Chris Noth, who plays Mr Big, was notably absent from the trailer. The actor was accused of sexual assault by two women in December 2021 and was reportedly written out of the show’s season finale as a result.
When will And Just Like That: The Documentary be released?
The documentary will air on Thursday 3 February, the same day as the And Just Like That season finale. You can watch it on HBO.
