Alicia Keys Just Wore Butterfly Clips in the Most Glamorous Way — See Video

Alicia Keys has some of the best vocals in the world and some of the prettiest hair, too. She’s showed us how to rock blunt bangs with butt-length hair, has blown us away with some elegant jumbo double twists, turned a voluminous ponytail into the ultimate glam look, and is now teaching us all how to wear butterfly clips in an updated-but-still-very-nostalgic way.

The singer-songwriter and co-creator of Keys Soulcare wore some golden butterfly clips paired with a braided ponytail in a video that she posted to her Instagram grid on Saturday, September 18. In the video, the camera starts at the crown of her head, then works its way down to the bottom of her butterfly-studded braided ponytail. The way some of the clips glint in the light is truly a work of art.

The footage of Keys’s beautifully-braided ponytail is also accompanied by her singing some lyrics from her song, “Butterflyz.” In the final seconds of the video, the camera turns to Keys’s face, showing that the butterfly-clipped braid wasn’t the only hair moment she was serving here. Keys also framed her face with some wave-shaped edges. You can take it all in by watching the video here.

Butterfly clips aren’t exactly a new trend, but their rise in popularity is a sign of the times, specifically an increased interest in the beauty and style trends of the ‘90s and early aughts aka Y2K. For example: Singer-songwriter Lizzo recently shared some photos and a video of herself wearing the hair clips of yesteryear with a pair of pigtails. Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian gave us some truly authentic inspiration by posting throwback photos featuring her hair twisted back and secured by mini, floral clips. If clips aren’t your thing, don’t worry: There are plenty of other ways to work butterflies into your look, like how Olivia Rodrigo‘s hairstylist added some butterfly charms to her face-framing braids at the 2021 VMAs.
