In devastating news for many Adele fans, the award-winning singer has been forced to reschedule her Las Vegas residency, which was due to start this weekend (21 January 2022).
Adele took to social media to share the news, posting a video of herself in tears as she explained the reasoning behind the last-minute cancellation. She tweeted, “All dates will be rescheduled,” before promising “More info coming soon.”
In the video, Adele said, “Listen, I’m so sorry but my show ain’t ready,” explaining “We’ve done absolutely everything that we can to pull it together in time and for it to be good enough for you.”
She continued, “We’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and Covid. Half my crew, half my team are done with Covid […] It’s been impossible to finish the show. And I can’t give you what I have right now.”
The star added that she was “gutted” about the situation, saying, “I’m sorry it’s so last minute, we’ve been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out and we’ve run out of time.”
Adele reassured fans that the dates would be rescheduled, saying that she will “finish [her] show and get it to where it’s supposed to be,” before adding, “We’ve been up against so much and it just ain’t ready.”
It was initially planned that Adele would do two concerts each weekend in Las Vegas, from 21 January until 16 April. They would have been her first live concerts in five years and were the only shows she’d announced to promote her album 30 – as well as two dates in London’s Hyde Park.
The news has received a mixed response from fans, many of whom had already travelled to Las Vegas in anticipation of the shows. One tweeted, “why wait so last min to announce? I am on the plane to Vegas RN w/ my hotel booked for tomorrow’s opening night. You must’ve known the show wasn’t ready yesterday. Yes, covid, but u can cancel things 3 days b4. It’s cruel to wait 26 hrs until 1st show. Wasted and hotel money!! [sic]’
However, most were understanding, with one tweeting, “You did the absolute right thing! There is nothing wrong with being an artist and being sensitive about your shit! The world isn’t going anywhere! Everyone will still be right there ready to dance, sing, cry and laugh! There is nothing wrong with wanting to give your best!”
We hope Adele feels better soon. There’s always next time, after all.
